The Game of Job Searching/Interviewing
As you know when you first meet a guy or girl that you are interested in romantically, you date them. It is also more than likely that you will be dating others as well. Dating is all about finding the right match in hopes of marriage or a long term commitment. Well…job searching and interviewing is the same way.
We always say how there is a "War on Talent", but in reality do we really understand what that means? A good candidate is going to be interviewing with multiple companies or agencies. They aren’t going to be throwing all their eggs in one basket that would be breaking the first rule of a job search (Rule # 1: Always apply to multiple places that you see a fit with your background, never put all your eggs in one basket.) I currently have a candidate that is a media planner and we all know those are a hot item right now. He is interviewing with multiple places trying find the right fit, it’s just like finding date to date exclusively.
One of my clients is interested in this particular candidate. However, when my client was explained that he is in final stages with another agency and that he needed to either !@%& or get off the pot, he balked at the comment. What my client doesn’t realize is they are in a tough recruiting market, the city isn’t an ideal city to live in and talent is not in abundance. So with that being said, their first response is to drop the guy because he probably won’t come to their agency and then they would have wasted time and money.
You can’t look at this situation that way. It’s an experience and a chance that you have to take; a game that you have to play. If you are serious about someone, show them you are serious; give them the royal treatment when you bring them in for the interview. Don’t automatically assume they won’t pick you - its all about having self-confidence. Remember someone doesn’t want to date someone who has a low self esteem.

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article e of Job Searching/Interviewing | Hiring Revolution, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.

I agree with you. If you want someone, show them that they are your #1 choice. Getting the right candidate for the job is critical and when you find that perfect fit, you should go all out to hire them. The important part is sifting through resumes to find that perfect candidate. At our company, we use profiles tests as well as a rigorous interview process to determine skills and talents. Interesting, Robin Mottern from Profiles is speaking on May 31 about “Taking the Guesswork out of Hiring”. You can see her free seminar here at: http://www.readytalk.com/web-seminar-series/
