U-G-L-Y, You Ain’t Got No Alibi
I was never a cheerleader. Sadly, I was involved in far geekier high school enterprises than school spirit. It’s shameful to admit I probably even made fun of cheerleaders. Because, you know, singing the national anthem at the homecoming game and then leaving afterwards because I had no one to sit with is WAY cooler than being on the field shaking my bootie to the groove of “Push It.â€
But now that I’m a recruiter, I feel like being a cheerleader is a big part of my job. I cheer on your agency to my candidate. I cheer on my candidate to you. I don’t want jobs I’m not excited about and I don’t give you candidates I don’t believe in. As Head Cheerleader of this agreement we have together, I need my team to get on board. I need YOU to cheer with me. I need us to know the same cheer.
If I’m all ‘Firecracker, Firecracker, Boom Boom Boom†and you’re all, “B-E-AGG-R-E-SSIVE†then it’s not going to look good.

We need to be on the same page. We have the same goal, after all. We both want to win the game. Score the big touchdown. Bring it on home. So let’s talk strategy and how we’re going to get the right person in the right job. Let’s discuss how loudly I’ll cheer when it’s my turn and how you’re going to tear it up when I’m not around. I need to know that you believe in your team and why. I need to know you feel it all the way down deep in your pom-poms.
We got spirit, yes we do. We got spirit, how ’bout YOU?
